Environment:
Before we discuss about Fly Ash, let’s give a quick glimpse about cement manufacturing.
For every ton of cement manufactured about 6.5 million BTUs of energy is consumed. For every ton of cement manufactured, about 1 ton of carbon dioxide is released.
Use of Fly Ash trims down the use of cement and hence reduces the need for cement manufacturing and ultimately becomes an environment saviour. Cement is a major energy user and also causes greenhouse gas emissions.
Let’s see a simple calculation. By replacing Cement with Fly Ash, it saves enough electricity to lighten up Indian home for 24 days and most importantly, reduces Carbon Dioxide emission equal to two month’s consumption of an automobile.
According to construction experts’ research, if total Fly Ash manufactured is used in producing concrete, the reduction of Carbon Dioxide released would be equivalent to eliminating 25% of the world vehicles. The cement production contributes to about 7% of Carbon Dioxide emissions from human sources.
